Appreciate this piece. I am a Labor activist and nurse in New Orleans who was terminated for organizing. I continue to fight. We formed the first nurse union in the deep south and won our election by 82%. We have been in a contract fight for over 650 days! We’ve struck four times and have done countless shop floor actions. While we haven’t YET won our fight, we have energized local Labor and are beginning to form new coalitions. There are SO many fights on SO many fronts in our country at this moment…ALL are important. However, I do not believe there is any possible way to organize ourselves out of this disaster without organized Labor as the tip of the spear. This needs to expand far beyond the traditional Labor unions (trades) to workers in all sectors. Our work is the thing that connects us all (I mean, our shared humanity is our primary connection, but that doesn’t seem to carry much weight these days), and it is THE thing that should unite us against the billionaires.
