Reading List 2/12 - Microplastics Continued. It's Even Worse.
More bad news since my November microplastics article
Microplastics and Nanoplastics in Atheromas and Cardiovascular Events
In plain English, it is a landmark study proving that people with plastics in their arteries were 4.5x more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke.
We focused on "microplastics" (visible fragments), but the real threat is nanoplastics or rather particles so small they can pass through the gut lining and the blood-brain barrier. These particles are now being found in liver tissue, lung tissue, and even the placenta, suggesting systemic bio-accumulation that starts before birth.
Our current toxicology regulations are based on "poison" (acute toxicity), not "disruption" (chronic endocrine and physical interference). We’re regulating these materials as if they are food packaging, while the biological reality is that they are behaving like permanent, active, hazardous pathogens within the cardiovascular system.
Found a neat barcode scanner that identifies endocrine disruptors and hazardous additives in food and cosmetics. Can help defend against bio-accumulation.

The news isn't great but I really appreciate you sharing this app. I go through a lot of pages on EWGs various ratings for produce, groceries and personal care products but it's time consuming and not everything is covered. What they have is great information but almost too much to use quickly.
